Playboy Style Overview

Join former Playboy Staff Photographer, David Mecey, for a 3-day FotoFantasyCamp devoted to his style of photography during his 23-year tenure at the magazine. David will show you how to light, pose, style, and shoot like a Playboy photographer during this workshop.

Watch as he lights and photographs gorgeous models in the style of the magazine. Then you step in and with David at your side; photograph the same model yourself as David helps with the posing and directing while you shoot.

Course description update:

The program is designed as if the model has submitted to the magazine followed by the steps to create a Playmate layout.

The first day is spent in the studio for what appears to be a cover shoot. Studio lighting is taught with
a download and workflow taught at day’s end in a classroom setting at workstations provided by Light.

The following day, go on location to experience shooting
what Playboy calls, ‘small camera’, which are photographs
in 35mm used in her feature. Lighting, posing, wardrobe,
everything needed on location is taught with David at
your side.

The final day is something never before shown
in a workshop. It is the creation of a Playboy Gatefold
(centerfold shoot). By using (we hope to acquire an 8 x 10
view camera) the actual type of camera used by Playboy
photographers to produce the magazine’s iconic photograph.

Since Playboy’s beginning, it is a moment only a hand full of Playboy photographers have ever experienced, David being one. As well, that same scene will be offered for the participants to photograph using their cameras with David at your side. A final download session and PS workflow is done in the classroom.
